1  General Category / General Discussion / LAST DAY to win copy of Trader's Tales & other prizes with $5 charity donation on: August 01, 2011, 08:26:28 AM
Hello all,

with permission of Nathan I would like to let you know about my fundraising drive for Clarion and your chance to win a free copy of the Trader's Tales or one of many other prizes in the raffle.

Right now I am fundraising for Clarion, the SciFi & Fantasy charity. I have organised a grand giveaway of prizes and have collected many donations of books and book-related items from writers and editors all over the Twittersphere, many Clarion Alumni or former Lecturers. Nathan has been very generous and given me 3 copies of his Trader's Tales books (paper or Kindle) to include in the giveaway for my sponsors.

I know all of us here are fans of Nate's work and a fair number of you will already have the book, but I hope that you'll trust that every cent donated helps a great charity that secures the future of science fiction and fantasy writing and supports the making of books we can't imagine yet. Winning a prize will be the extra icing on the cake.

For a $5 deductible donation, you are entered in the prize giveaway and can pick your favourite prize. If you pick the Trader's Tales as a prize and you win, you'll talk directly to Nate to let him know which version you want and how he can get it to you.

The list of all the prizes in the $5 giveaway is here and the donation page is here. The donation page lists more prizes you can win. For writers a free copy of Scrivener, the writer's software, would be an excellent choice. For high value donations there's even an iPad2 up for grabs!

The Clarion Write-a-Thon ends this Saturday the 6th of August. If you can be persuaded to donate for your chance to win a prize, this week is your last chance.

If you have any questions at all, please post them here or send me a DM.

Please support a great foundation and help them shape the future of Science Fiction & Fantasy!

Hope to find you well.
Regards,

Victoria Griesdoorn

And when the name well dries up, you can always borrow some ! Wink
3  General Category / General Discussion / Anyone have a spotify invite to give away ? on: January 19, 2010, 04:54:10 AM
Completely unrelated to anything here and, Nate, please feel free to create a Soapbox section or something where this request would fit better and move this thread there.

In absence of a Soapbox though, I'll just ask; Anyone have a spotify invite to give away ? I would really like to get onto it now that they have closed normal sign-up procedures. It would make my year !

Thanks !
V.

Laboratory work also goes very well with audiobooks. The only thing is I just started a new series of nine books, so I haven't listened to Captain's Share yet, but it's downloaded and ready to go ! Cheesy

Jep, was going to shout out a 'no fair', but then decided to keep it civil. Now I find out that I'm not on the mailing list and that's why I missed out the treat. Happy that Nathan put the link up here anyway, so slow me can listen too... in the morning... when it's not midnight GMT !

Yay !

I'll go listen right away in the morning when it's not midnight GMT Smiley

Wow, that's only four days from now. Cheesy
8  The Golden Age / Captain's Share / Re: Spoiler warning - Ish's new ship on: August 30, 2009, 02:50:19 PM
Oeh... I haven't been listening for possible ships. That would mean I would have to listen to Double Share again... Shame...
9  The Golden Age / Captain's Share / Re: Whet your appetites for new adventures on: August 27, 2009, 09:40:51 AM
I know... Cheesy I'm assuming that it's not the Tinker anymore then, 'cause I think Freddy wouldn't let it deteriorate again. Don't think he stayed with DST then either if he's heading a bad ship. Going on Mallory and Kurt in Double Share they wouldn't tolerate a Burnside-run ship again either !

Tantalising !
10  The Golden Age / South Coast / Just a pat on the back... on: August 24, 2009, 07:27:53 AM
Didn't really know where to say it, so I'll just say it here.

One of the things I like about South Coast is the narrative misdirection that for the first time gets a real prominent role in the series. We have seen a few smaller instances where Ish's narrow line of vision is supposed to keep us guessing for a while, but nowhere is it really as fleshed out as in South Coast.

I think you did a good job with the narrative misdirection in South Coast, Nathan. When I read it the first time, I really felt the sense off betrayal that the fishers felt when confronted with the outrageous quotas and I got caught up in the speculation and conspiracy theories right along with Jimmy and Tony.

Just sayin' !
11  The Golden Age / Double Share / Re: Theories on Ish's Father ***Potential Spoilers*** on: August 14, 2009, 05:00:04 AM
Oeh, I love theorising ! I'll join in with my tuppence when I have reread them all....

Edit to add;

I think d1arkstar is right ! Franklin Wang and Frank the Overeasy cook. One and the same ? That's where I am adding my money, too.

Yep, enthusiasm here too ! I have lost all my podcasts and podiobooks through a drive crash a while ago (didn't have room for my audio collection on the back-up drive so it was a conscious loss), but I'm getting them back in and the reread should be happening soon Smiley Can't wait !

Working on the welkie thing. Currently looking in local bookshops for carving books Smiley

Hahaha, me reading wrong. I was about to say; 'no, you don't want to carve books, you want to carve animals...' Silly me, must pay attention to where I read the emphasis.

Rossett/Rossetti, ties there ? Lenora added an 'i' for a pen name ?
15  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Descriptions on: July 27, 2008, 11:46:24 AM
There is description in the Rubaier (or however it is spelled, sorry Nate !) scene, right ? He puts Ish in front of the mirror to let Ish examine the man that he is and wants to be. Missing protagonist descriptions are the downside of first POV. Smiley
