1  The Golden Age / Owner's Share / Re: ARTICLE 37 FREE ZONE - WARNING ENTER HERE ONLY AFTER LISTENING TO EPI 30 on: January 31, 2011, 12:04:53 PM
Owners share is without a doubt the best of the series so far. It's so unusual for a series of this length to keep getting better and better. I'll look forward to whatever Nathan produces next.

A few points I've thought of:-

Why the sale problem with the Cherniakova?
Will the resale go through quickly and give Ish some folding money sooner than he expects.

It's  unusual for two characters in a book (series) to have the same surname unless related ... Coincidence, rugose kipper or sumpin else?

A wrongful dismissal case may have more traction as it could be made to appear (especially in the newsies) like the sacking was just a way of clearing the decks prior to giving his new squeeze a job.

I'd love to see what happens a few years down the line - sort of "family share" style. Bringing up kids on a working ship would raise a whole host of new issues - it'd be fun to see Pip back sailing in the same annex - swapping out kids on occasion. Bring on the whole family in space experience, even down to the ships cat.

Listened to episode 13 twice now,  That's a great payoff. Thanks skipper.

We haven't heard the last of Ms Gerheart, my guess is she will be his new engineer, but he better get a move on before she sails.

Given that Maloney specified Ish as a trainer because he wanted his daughter to succeed how will DST board members want things to work out now?
Was Maloneys death natural or subtly assisted?  Remember he felt threatened enough to travel everywhere with a bodyguard.
what's to stop Ish from using his charm and position of authority to end up as husband to majority shareholder and de facto CEO of DST (ok, I know the answer to that one)
All in all it's going to be fun sorting through this one, I hope Ish remembers his academy level sneakiness course ( and checks his new boat for booby traps)  Grin

Thoroughly enjoying it so far. I Like the way we are slowly piecing together Tanyth's back story. we seem to be rather cliffhangered at the moment as i'm sure we haven't seen the last of the hamlets most recent visitors.
This definately has the potential to be your best work yet.

The good thing about loose ends is that we can imagine a few outcomes for ouselves:
Perhaps Stacie and Chooch take it upon themselves to teach William Pall some self defence and he starts to slowly recover.
After an initial burst of enthusiasm for hot tubbing leads Ishmael to embarrass himself (several times) in Greta Gearheart's presence he fills it up with sludge and starts Growing Mushrooms.
A customs inspection turns up WMD's in the weapons locker. (By the way thats the first time I've heard of weapons lockers on a clipper ship - is the pirate risk actually real - stand by to repel boarders Mr Pall)
we have some time now to relisten (several times) and come to our own conclusions as to what happens next -
OK I know i'm trying to put a positive spin on the fact that Nathan hasn't written Owners Share yet but i'm an optimist- give him a month or so and we will get some Kick Ass fantasy as a result of his November Challange with Mur Lafferty. (how would Mordor have improved if it was efficiently Managed?)

on the tune of sailing, how do they 'sail' back down the solar wind / gravity well? do they actually have to tack back and forth? or do they simply reverse the polarity on the sails to attract and accelerate the solar wind rather than catch/impede it?
I think tacking would be the answer. Solar sails would work by catching "solar wind" the acceleration proportional to the pressure of the particles striking the sails. Reversing the polarity would not work because the particles are basically streaming towards the ship from the sun.

I wonder how Ish would deal with confronting the guy. He's not the type to open a can of whoop-ass except in self-defence, so it would be very interesting.

He could always make him a cup of coffee Grin

Wonderful Narration in Chapter 18. it perfectly conveyed the sort of dead inside feeling one gets at those moments when one realises that part of ones life has changed irrevocably.
I think the "Putting the boot in" part at the legal office was cruel and would hope he will bite the bullet and have the hard coversation with Jen.
One of the things I noticed about Ish in this book was his willingness to have the difficult conversations early rather than prevaricate. He certainly tackled Gwen Thomas quickly and I put it down to increasing maturity  - part of that command presence he's supposed to have. So I have hopes.
This kinda clears the way for Greta Gearheart but for Ish's "I don't screw with crew" phillosophy and the fact that she is in his chain of command. Perhaps she is rich  - it would be ironic if Ish struggled up to captain only to rely on his wife to buy him his next command.

One of the Captains on Ish's interview panel Was Cthulu Himself Brand Gambling who's "Tumbler" novel http://www.podiobooks.com/title/tumbler Has been keeping me entertained.

I've finally caught up.
What a wonderful comedic scene in the Galley with the crew lined up like Scotty and Co in the trouble with Tribbles Classic Trek episode.
The more I hear of Greta the better fit with Ish she seems - she picked up on the vibes between Miss Thomas and Mr Whyatt - Or did some vibrations in the night clue her in (she seems very attuned to ship noises). Anyway i digress - Greta is smart and dresses well  - Ish seems to have a clothes fetish. I can see them running a small Mom and Pop Freighter operation - one of the reasons why captains and engineers look to hook up I,m sure.
I do hope we get to eavesdrop on a clothes buying excursion  the crew must have some creds to spend with all that bonus.
BTW If any of you space rats caught the new Stargate Universe premiere they would have seen excess Carbon dioxide causing problems on a starship - Nate did much better.
