The Top Ten List of How You Know Someone's Crew

Well, I've done it. I've been with Nate and Ish and the Lois through all the Share books. I loved Otto's journey on the South Coast. Now what do I do?

It's nice to be done. It's nice to have the totality of the stories in my head, to hear them still rattling around in there.

So to pass the time, I've written this top ten list of how you can tell someone's Crew. It's very silly - I'd love to hear your take.

But here's mine:

10. They're always looking at things as trade goods.
9. They call their regular clothes their "Civvies."
8. They have a serious compulsive desire to bake bread.
7. They buy Beefalo steaks at the market even if they're more expensive.
6. They have a thing for piercings and tattoos.
5. They want NO part of a future that doesn't involve coffee.
4. Favorite thing to whisper to a lover: "You're good."
3. At the end of the work week, they call out "Now Liberty, Now Liberty."
2. Upon arrival at a destination in a car, they say, "Secure from navigation detail. You have the watch."

and the #1 thing that tells you someone is Crew:

1. They have to visibly stop themselves from saying, "Hold on a Tick," to strangers who don't know what they mean.

Fantastic!! I do refer to things taking x number of ticks.
Luckily, here in Ireland it's a common enough word usage so people don't think I'm crazy...

That's interesting, haven't heard that before. What part of Ireland?

I'm from Dublin but you hear it all over. 'I'll be with you in two ticks' 'Just a tick' etc.

Kewl ! It's quite common in Dutch too.
'Ik ben in een tik bij je.'

(translates to; I'll be with you in a tick).

I've heard and used 'tick' this way from time to time in the past.

I've started using it again thanks to 'Share'

I think it probably has fallen out of use more recently since I think of it relating to old analog clocks where the minute had would 'tick' and digitals don't...

anyway I love the top 10... I have caught myself doing several of those

Ha ha very good but your #1 thing wouldnt turn a hair in Yorkshire where I live. Its a fairly common saying lol

StephenK  look for carving class in your area there usually carvers that are willing to show/teach
