It's a big galaxy and the Western Annex is large, too. Port Newmar graduates around 400 officers a year. Is it the only academy or just the only one in the Western Annex or just the only one we know about?

I bet if there was more room in the hardback and if there was more time for personal ruminating in the story, we'd find that Ish still corresponds with Mr. von Ickles. There have been a lot of hints that he had a significant impact on Ish's life and he wasn't much older than Ish, either. Not quite a mentor, but not just a friend? All good questions. |
