If you listen to Ep. 12 when Chief Bailey comes aboard, you see a much different character than you do after the Iris takes her first trip.  Before is a chief engineer who is proactive, communicative, clear headed, and sounds like an authority in his field.  He double checks the spares inventory, he checked out all the work the had and had not been done on the ship and wasn't afraid to office advice and suggestions to the captain.  There may have been lots of "bangin'" but there wasn't any "see if they" double speak.

The difference in personality is remarkable.  Chief Bailey has a doppelganger, and an incompetent one, at that.

The Iris can sail circles around the Lois McKendrick and still be back at the Orbital for the afternoon deals at the flea market.

So Chief Engineer Montgomery Bailey is Satan's brother.  I'll wait to name Satan himself.  I have to say that I didn't expect the Chief to be quite so self-serving and malicious.  I think it's obvious that he's going to try to make real trouble.

I think I'd put in a call to two people, if I were Ishmaiel. First, Mr. Simpson.  I trust him and I think he's an ally, whether motivated by profit or not.  Second, Curt.  I bet he knows how to deal with problems like Monty Bailey--and I bet Curt might be willing to help Ish and the daughter of Jeff Maloney.

Yeah, I would think so too. but aside from feeding the newsies a story weighted to make Ish and possibly Miss Maloney look bad I'm not so sure he can do anything. (oh wait he is doing that already)

Both of them are capable of defending themselves and will still be on their guard I would expect.

Wait, Bailey first name is "Montgomery"? I didn't catch that before.

@Nate: I see what you did there.  Wink
