In all the Share novels, what's your favorite solar clipper? What SHIP do you love, not the crew.

The Iris can sail circles around the Lois McKendrick and still be back at the Orbital for the afternoon deals at the flea market.

Maybe this poll should be over in a more general board?

I thought about it...after I set it up.  I don't think I have the ability to move it now.

On the other hand, this is where most of the readers are concentrated now.

Going off the board here but the SC Cthulhu led by a senior captain....

Got to have a senior for a ship of the old gods.

Was that a ship that Ish rode in or served on?  I'll add it if I missed it somewhere.  I figured that any ship the story spent time on would be acceptable, not just any ship mentioned in the series.

I think it was one of the "ships at a distance"

Nitpick: I think that of all the ships mentioned, only the Agamemnon might be a "clipper ship" in the traditional sense, with a moderate cargo capacity but a bit of a speed advantage over, say, the Lois.
I forget what the Christiana Ellis was like.

That being said, I picked the Iris, for the speed and the view. If it was a car, it would look like this:

(GM Firebird III)

I can see it now... The good reviews of the Iris trigger a sudden interest in vintage ships like the Higby ("Higbee"?) Starlighter, and they become highly sought-after as a collectible classic ship for wealthy playboy types and retired CEOs. "Starlighter Enthusiasts" clubs and swap-meets pop up all over the galaxy.

The Christiana Ellis is/was Jeff Maloney's (and, apparently Christine Maloney's) fast-packet of choice for personal travel.  It was the ship that took Ish from Port Newmar to Diurnia.  It was reasonably fast and had a notable amount of living space for its size.

I think you are correct about what would be analogous to an old clipper ship when you look at the space fleet.  I always thought that "solar clipper" was a catchall phrase for any spaceship using the solar wind sail technology, though, and I never tried to take it any farther than that.

I agree on the use of "Clipper".

The good ship Cthulhu was captained by the senior captain on the board at Ish's Master's ticket interview.

I think I have to say the Lois, just because there's more room in it, space for amenities and plenty of company - and yet, space to disappear into and be alone a while.

With a good laptop and plenty of entertainment storage (e-books - density of e-book storage is incredible!, movies really are about as high-definition as they need to be now, and any reasonable extrapolation of storage density suggests carrying around a few hundred movies would be nothing...)  I'd be in hog-heaven on a ship.  Except in *real* emergencies, nice steady well definited shifts, and people willing to actually be there on time to replace me - or I can actually get backed by officers about them being late...

I'm old school; it will always be the Lois for me.
