Pip and the foodstuffs Trading

So, I just finished listening to chapter 15 where Pip explains the food trading scheme to Ish, and I had this flashback to Catch-22 and Milo Minderbinder. If Pip starts to bomb his own ship, I'm calling shenanigans

Seriously though...Had that character from Catch 22 play any role in forming your ideas in this? Obviously the Catch-22 version was over the top and saterical on purpose..but common themes are there.
