The nice part about writing a series is there's never "and they lived happily ever after." There's always the next book.

Excellent ending. Very logical. I greatly enjoyed it. Curious as to where you are going to go next. So are we going to have a Double Share part 2? Where Ish becomes 2nd and 1st Mate? Where to go? Now hopefully...we won't have to wait 6+ months for the next one... (Note: I need to set up another interview/discussion with Nathan Lowell)

There won't be a Double Share : Deux .. but I reserve the right to come back to do "Ishmael Wang: Second Mate" at another time.
The next in this series will be Captain's Share ... but as some have correctly observed, that will per force be sometime in the future ... I'm thinking of a 10 year jump

Is Laith gone???
Ok. Why does Captain McGrudt call Ish a dangerous man?

Fantastic as usual. this book seemed a little 'light' compared to the others. Not in terms of content, certainly the sadistic 1st mate and the sufferings of Davies et al were dark. Maybe the pacing was a little faster in Double Share? I think that might be it.
I found myself concerned that Jeff Maloney would understand the quality of tailor Ish was really looking for. lol
Thanks so very much, Nate. Is it too early to ask for a prognosis on Captain's Share?

Frederica deGrudt .. Why do you think?
My impression here, starting back in Quarter Share, is that Ish is truly guileless and has that real charisma that reaches into people. That gives him a kind of power that the deGrudts in the Deep Dark recognize. Its what will inevitably make him a Captain people will genuinely follow through all hardships.

"light" ... interesting word ... I'm not sure how you mean it.
It's the longest, in terms of words at 106.7k and in number of episodes (25). That also makes it the longest in terms of hours of listening at 9hrs 50mins
As far as plot, it's not the most complex plot, altho perhaps the most coherent. In South Coast there are two plots that twist together, where here there's really only one large one.
So ... light?

If I can get my overdue July-Project done .. I'll start Captains Share in August
I have to teach this fall, so I'm not sure how much time I'll have for that.
WORST case, I'll do it in November for NaNoWriMo ... altho I want to do Cape Grace then to fill the hole between South Coast and Half Share.
We'll have to see what comes up between now and then

Yes, Sekrit Project Alpha 1.
if successful, SPA1 will allow me to become a full time writer.
I *should* have been doing that instead of Double Share, but I *needed* to get Double Share out before my head exploded.

Sorry, Nate - I don't know much more about why I described it as light than you were able to suss out. I think the pace is the culprit. In two ways: 1) you really churned these audio episodes out, so we were able to absorb the entire book rather quickly. I listen episodically, as released so this is a real treat. I don't wait until the book is complete. 2) I think, and I will need to go back over the story to get the timeline correct, but didn't this story take place over a shorter period of time overall? Seemed that way.
Perhaps the more straightforward plot contributed. Great story anyway. Getting everything cleaned up and bristle fashion makes sense for this universe. And, probably without concern, you addressed my concern back in QS that Ish needed to be tested more individually. Your characterizations of Burnside and his cronies attempting to subject Ish was classic. Then you stayed true to yourself and Ish by giving him the perfect means to deal with those situations. QQF - just QQF!

ya .. i'm not doing myself any favors by releasing 25 episodes in 14 days. By anybody ELSE's production schedule, that's almost half a year's production.
The other side of that coin is that I was a listener before I was a producer and I *really* wanted the story ... dragging it out just to keep the listeners on the hook from week to week seems a bit mean. So, I get my big audience push for just a few days ... And then the story's over and the long wait happens between books.
if I could write full time, I can easily see my putting out a book every other month. Depending on other projects, of course.
So much to write about and so little time.
